Dr. Megan Lawson, ABPP

Megan Lawson, PsyD, ABPP is a co-founder and managing partner at Alliance Psychology. She is board certified in Clinical Psychology. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Business from The University of Texas at Austin, her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Pepperdine University, and her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University.
Dr. Lawson has experience working in a variety of settings with children, adolescents, adults, and families. She has extensive experience with psychological testing. She completed two years of training at the nationally ranked Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles providing neuropsychological evaluations of children and adolescents with complex medical disease. She has been trained to provide neurodevelopmental evaluations, has specialty training related to diagnosing autism spectrum disorder, and often provides consultation on cases where autism is a possible diagnosis. She has worked and trained in residential and outpatient therapeutic clinics providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment to adults presenting with a variety of therapeutic goals. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department where she provided psychotherapy, group therapy, and psychological assessments for youth and families involved in the corrections system and consultation to probation officers and staff working with the youth. Upon licensure, she worked as a PRN employee of the University Health System providing evaluations for detained youth. She completed her postdoctoral training and early career years at Clarity Child Guidance Center, providing depth-oriented therapy and psychological assessment to children and families. In this role, she also provided supervision to trainees, community presentations, and program management. She then transitioned full-time to Alliance Psychology where she provides outpatient clinical therapy and comprehensive psychological assessment to children, families, and adults. She also provides clinical supervision and training to other professionals within the practice and co-manages the business administration of the group.
Dr. Lawson approaches cases from the lens of interpersonal neurobiology, integrated relational psychotherapy, family systems, and depth-oriented psychology. She has also had specialty training in humanistic/existential psychology and cognitive behavioral therapies and has appreciation for the various camps within mental health. She has worked effectively with a wide range of presenting concerns with her primary focus on psychological testing and ongoing depth-oriented care for children, adolescents, adults, and families. Dr. Lawson believes that ‘every symptom has a story to tell’, and she works to understand her patients in a non-judgmental and curious manner. She values and respects individual’s beliefs, experiences, and worldviews.
Dr. Lawson is an active member of her professional community. She is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Texas Psychological Association (participates in specialty consultation group), the Bexar County Psychological Association (past secretary), the Society of Group Psychotherapy of San Antonio (board member), the Psychoanalytic Society of San Antonio (board member), and the Therapeutic Assessment community.
